Abstraction from Spain

Like many 21st century painters, David Allott is entirely self taught, apart from the obligatory art learnt at school in his hometown, Sheffield South Yorkshire. After a short spell at recreating album covers onto the walls of people's homes in 1986 he left Northern England to live in Southern Spain and it was then that he began seriously concentrating on painting. Eight years later, David was back in the UK and, despite having no real reputation to talk of, managed to begin selling his work to a broad spectrum of people both in the UK and in his home of eight years, Spain. "My style is simple, abstract and modern," says David. "Working with oil is like being on the road to nowhere, but you visit everywhere along the way! My inspiration comes from travel, from educational and family trips, work projects and individual journeys." With a head for languages, David believes that his experiences and influences gained from his travelling are reproduced in his work. David has his work on permanent display in a restaurant in Marbella, Spain where in just one year he has sold hundreds of paintings. David takes on board both positive and negative comments on his work but firmly believes that his paintings are marketable, "My international audience, albeit small, amounts to a vote of confidence."
